Christine Curnow
After studying as a mature student at The University of Derby, I graduated in 1997 with a B.A. Hons Degree in Applied Art. I now produce ceramic pieces in a studio/workshop based at my own home. Although my specialist area is ceramics, I also design and work with mixed media.
The techniques I am currently using include hand and slab building, combined with press moulding. Modular plaster moulds are made by myself to facilitate the press moulding, which is then combined with the hand and slab building.
I use a lightly grogged stoneware clay which is fired to between 1240°C and 1260°C. The use of glaze is kept to a minimum and surface decoration is usually in the form of body stains, oxides and slip.
