I always had an interest in clay, so I decided to study an MA in Ceramics at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent. I was fortunate to be granted a bursary to learn how to throw large pieces under the tutorship of Kevin Millward from Clay College. I went on to set up my own studio in rural Herefordshire near Ludlow and Mortimer’s Forest and my work is often inspired by the colours and textures of the landscape and nature all around. I am particularly interested in work that comments on environmental issues. Most of my work is either terracotta slipware or stoneware, and I enjoy experimenting with different techniques to create textural layers, like throwing and altering. I make functional and sculptural works and am particularly drawn to catching movement in clay.
