Whether wheel thrown or hand built, my pots are painstakingly burnished to a high sheen. When soft, the clay can be impressed and layers of coloured slip are brushed on to yield a range of subtle colours.
After burnishing, I bisque fire the pots and mask with slurry in readiness for the sawdust or paper firing. At this stage everything is given over to the alchemy of the fire.
Once a pot is cleaned up, the surface is brought to life with wax. Any re-polishing will always enhance the sheen |
