Text Box: Molly Abbott

Landscapes, seascapes and the elements have always been my starting points, though now I am beginning to reference buildings as well. The ideas come together with my other loves colour, texture and pattern. Often based on bowl forms - though sometimes moving towards taller shapes - these could be classed as vessels. However, because of their sculptural qualities they can be viewed as stand alone pieces.

I use white/cream earthenware clay and create the textured surfaces, which are enhanced with swathes of colour. Blues, greens and turquoises are favourites, with the occasional contrast of a yellow or lime green. I use either a silken or a subtle matt transparent glaze to bring the surfaces to life in the kiln.
