Text Box: Nicola Price

I graduated from the university of Cumbria in 2008 where I studied a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Applied Arts and have now moved back to Shropshire, where I grew up, to establish and further my career in Ceramics, opening a studio in Bewdley Museum.

My ceramics consist of large-scale hand built forms. I use surface texture to create organic surfaces and composition. Capturing the essence of the shoreline by incorporating gathered washed-up debris from the shore and applying sprigs of shells, seaweed, starfish, barnacles, rock and rope; I create an organic contained atmosphere, representing the feel of rock-pools and rock formational on the coast. My adornment enhances and draws out the textural qualities. This in turn, creates the sense of water and reflects light with lustre sheens.
